If it isn't on here, ask anyway. Odds are we do that too.
From what's underground to what you drive on — and the sawmill, the welder and the dock crib in between. We take on the heavy, dirty, important work, and we do it right.
New Eljen and In-Drain systems, replacements, tanks, pump stations, and old-system removal. Soil evaluation and system design by Corinne Knapp, Licensed Site Evaluator — we dig the test pits, carry the HHE-200 through the town office, and put it in the ground. One call, start to finish.
Driveways, turnarounds, and parking areas. Cross rock, base, and finish, graded to last and to shed water.
Digging, grading, drainage, culverts, and full site prep. The right machines for ledge, rock, and tough ground.
Lot clearing, mulching, hand-cutting, and tree, brush & stump removal — including tight, remote, waterfront sites.
Culverts, water management, rock walls, and groundwork made ready for foundations.
Backyard water gardens to multi-acre farm and fire ponds. Rubber-lined or clay-sealed, spillways, waterfalls and stone edging. See how we build them →
We mill on site with a portable sawmill — beams, timbers and boards cut from your own logs, or ours. Barn frames, sills and posts.
Timber docks set on stone footings, shoreline stabilization, granite steps and boulder placement. Camp and lake work is our home ground.
Custom steel built in our own shop — racks, gates, railings, brackets and beams — plus mobile repair welding out on the job.
Additions from foundation to finish, garages, barns and outbuildings. Framing, roofing, siding, windows, decks and porches.
Hang, tape, mud and finish, with 33 years of it on the crew. Trim, doors, stairs and paint — flat walls that stay flat.
Fireplaces, chimneys, stone and block, veneer and hearths. Our mason builds the thing people notice first in a room.
Well pumps, fences, barn restoration and specialty work. Foundations, HVAC, plumbing, electrical and drain cleaning through our trusted partners.
The stuff people forget to ask for — we already do it. And what we don't self-perform, we coordinate with trusted trades.
Not sure if it's something we do? It probably is. Just ask.
Every septic system we install is designed by Corinne Knapp, a Licensed Site Evaluator with a degree in soil science and more than thirty years reading Maine ground. She walks the lot, reads the test pits we dig, and puts her license on the design. We do the rest: the HHE-200 through the town office, the tank, the field, and the finish grade.
You still deal with us. One call, one schedule, one person accountable — from the first test pit to the last rake of loam. When a job needs mechanical trades, we bring in Dave's World: Maine's heat pump and home comfort specialists, with plumbing, electrical, panel upgrades and generators. They're right here in Dover-Foxcroft with us, and they cover the whole state.
You still deal with us. Homestead Heroes is your general contractor — one contract, one schedule, one person accountable for the whole job.Excavator, skid steer, two walk-behind mulchers, a portable sawmill, a dump truck — and a 60 × 60 shop with two lifts and a full welding bay behind all of it.
Set up for large-lot clearing. Ask about mulching your whole lot.
A shed built in your yard means a crew, a mess and a tarp over it every time it rains. We build it on a bench in the shop, out of the weather, and bring it to you done.
Your logs or ours, cut to size on our own portable sawmill. Beams, boards, sills and posts — no waiting on a lumber order.
On a bench in the 60 × 60, with the saws and the welder right there. Square, dry, and no day lost to weather.
Our truck, our trailer. Nobody else’s schedule, and nothing sitting half-finished in your yard waiting on a delivery date.
On a pad we built, graded to drain and level enough that the door still shuts right in five years. The excavator is already on the trailer.
If it fits on a trailer, we can build it in the shop. If it doesn’t, we build it on your site — same crew either way.
We’re building a shed for a client this fall — milled, framed and finished in the shop, then hauled out and set on a pad. We’ll photograph the whole thing, start to finish, and it goes up here when it’s done.
Talk to us about one →Our very first job was a camp eight miles up a back logging road in Willimantic. We trucked the excavator and the skid steer in over ground that was never meant to carry them, built crossings where the road had washed out, and hauled the rest in by ATV — every yard of stone, every length of pipe, every Eljen panel, load by load.
Then we put in a full 1,000-gallon tank and a 1,296 square foot Eljen field, permitted and inspected, like it was a job in town.
Logging roads, camp roads, right-of-ways, or no road at all. We plan the route, protect the ground, and get the iron to the site.
Where a crossing has washed out or never existed, we build one — then leave the ground and the water better than we found them.
When a loaded truck can't follow, stone, pipe, panels and tanks go in piece by piece until the whole system is on site.
A look at what we've been building lately across Maine.
A complete waterfront system in Willimantic: Eljen In-Drain Type B field, two 750-gallon tanks, a boathouse grinder pump, and a 2" force main — designed and permitted around a sloped, near-shore site.
Nine of us now, office and field, and between the trades alone about a century and a half of it — excavation, carpentry, sheetrock and masonry all under one roof. You hear from us the whole way through, photos and video included.

Homestead Heroes started because I was building my own home. I’d bought all the equipment — the excavator, the skid steer, the mulching heads, the sawmill — and hired good people to help me build it. When the house was finished, the people who built it became Homestead Heroes.
Plenty of outfits that claim they do everything are watered down — jack of all trades, master of none. We’re doing the opposite. We can take on any job because we have somebody elite in each part of it.

Toby came up through the trades with his father and brother, then moved into heavy equipment — excavators, skid steers and dozers on septic systems, pond digging, trenching and land clearing. After years on the HVAC supply side he came back to the field.
Today he helps run the company alongside Matt, managing jobs and running iron.

Runs the financial side of the business and looks after the people who do the work.
